A jamming block or a rope stopper for a boat comprises a housing (12) on which are pivoted an eccentric jamming cam (13) and a pair of pulley sheaves (10, 11) or rollers. Rotation of the cam in the jamming direction by its handle (18) jams a rope (19) against the edges of both the sheaves (10, 11) or both the rollers at the same time. A filler piece (16) may be fixed between the rollers. The arrangements provide a large operative jamming surface on the cam in contact with the rope and reduce damage to the rope in service. <IMAGE> |
