A pivoting arm (3) has a contact bar (31), a pivoting axle (32) and a spring-loaded restraining mechanism (34). It is positioned between the armatures (10,20) of two electro-magnets (1,2). The contact bar can occupy either of two stable positions in which one of two pars of contacts (11,12 and 21,22) are connected. The armatures of the electro-magnets are of the plunger type and move longitudinally out of the col when the coil is energised. Each plunger has a plate (13,23) attached to it. The plates are connected by a mechanical linkage (4,40) so that movement of one plunger pushes the other one back and vice versa. Energising one of the coils results in the plunger pushing the pivoting arm over to ts other stable positon and switching the contacts.
