The repair device has a projecting elongate member, a central rod (28), a rotary gear, drives for extending and rotating the central rod (28), and a nozzle (57) for spraying pourable refractory material. The elongate member is arranged close to the upper end of the blast furnace (1) to be repaired and can move to and fro across the diameter of the blast furnace (1) and at the same time supports drives for extending and rotating the central rod (28) which is fastened rotatably on the front part of the elongate member. The nozzle (57) is fastened pivotably on the lower end of the central rod (28). The drive shaft of the drive for rotating the central rod (28) and the driven shaft connected to the central rod (28) can be connected to one another and separated from one another. For repairing, the front part of the elongate member is introduced in horizontal position through an opening (5) which is formed close to the upper side of the blast furnace (1) in its wall. By pushing forward the elongate member, the central rod (28) fastened thereto is positioned in the centre of the blast furnace. The rotatable drive shaft, which is now in vertical position, is brought into operating connection with the driven shaft. With the repair device adjusted thus in the furnace, the pourable refractory material is supplied to the nozzle (57) from outside the furnace, while the central rod (28) is rotated for applying the refractory material to the damaged part of the furnace lining. <IMAGE>
