PURPOSE:To display an accurate tape position by displaying a rough tape position and also reading and displaying a tape position signal recorded on a magnetic tape when a device is in the playback state. CONSTITUTION:The rotations of a payoff reel turntable 2 and a take-up reel turntable 4 are detected respectively. An arithmetic circuit 10 is provided. The output of the arithmetic circuit 10 is displayed on a display means 14 which uses liquid crystal by controlling the display means 14 through a switching means 12. When a video tape recorder is placed in playback mode and a magnetic tape 16 is allowed to run in contact with a cylinder, a rotary magnetic head 18 reads a signal recorded on the magnetic tape 16. The read tape position signal is converted into a signal capable of driving the display means 14 through an amplifier 20 and a decoder 22, and the signal is supplied to the switching means 12. The switching means 12 supplies the signal from the arithmetic circuit 10 and that from a decoder 22 to the display means 14 selectively, thus performing switching so that the output of the decoder 22 is supplied to the display means 14 automatically. |
