Continuous lengths of rubber or plastics are vulcanized in apparatus which includes a curved vulcanizing pipe(2), the inlet(3) and outlet(4) being at the same height above the bottom of the curve; a heating fluid recirculation system which feeds fluid into the curved bottom, the fluid leaving from the inlet and outlet; a pressurised gas system(77),(78),(79),(80) which pressurizes the fluid at the inlet and outlet to maintain the same level; and a cleaner(87) to remove fluid from the vulcanized article as it leasves the outlet. An inclined cooling pipe(100) having its inlet above its outlet is located at the valcanizing pipe outlet.
