The invention in this case relates to a circuit arrangement in the case of which stator windings (which are connected to an AC voltage source and consist of a main winding and an auxiliary winding) produce a rotating field (via a capacitor auxiliary phase) for driving the rotor which is coupled to the rotary anode. The aim and object are to create a circuit arrangement which, without any major additional cost, ensures (during operation of the X-ray tube for X-ray examination) that the rotary anode rotates at a speed which can be predetermined, is constant and is low in comparison with the method of operation of such X-ray tubes for X-ray photographs. This is achieved according to the invention in that a switching means is provided with whose aid (during the operation of the X-ray tube for X-ray examination) a rectifier element or (in the case of stator windings which have a plurality of parts in each case) possibly a rectifier bridge circuit is connected in the stator circuit in such a manner that a portion of the stator windings is subjected to a direct current in order to produce a stationary magnetic field which is superimposed on the rotating field. <IMAGE>
