Fire or overheating detector - using UV or IR radiation passing through outside surface of optical fibre

The detector uses one or more optical fibres coupled to sensors for detecting UV or IR which is absorbed through the outer surface of the respective optical fibre. The latter are either bare or have an optically transparent outer coating. Pref. each optical fibre is coupled to the UV or IR sensor at one end and is coupled to a UV or IR source at the other end allowing the sensor to be tested. Alternatively an IR sensor is coupled to one end of each optical fibre with a UV sensor coupled to the other end. The allows inaccessible areas, where direct surveillance is not possible, to be monitored.
