PURPOSE:To prevent damage of a heat pipe ascribable to freezing of a thermal medium by a method wherein a material which does not mix with thermal medium and has smaller specific gravity and vapor pressure head larger than those of the thermal medium is enclosed. CONSTITUTION:A medium 7 which does not mix with a thermal medium 6 and has smaller specific gravity and larger vapor pressure head than those of the thermal medium 6 is enclosed in a heat pipe 3. When an operation of the heat pipe 3 is stopped the medium 7 is always above te thermal medium 6. Under this locational relation the medium 7 blocks evaporation of the thermal medium 6. The thermal medium 6, therefore, does not freeze from the top because of evaporative cooling. Therefore, it is necessary that a quantity of the medium 7 shall be satisfactorily small as compared with that of the thermal medium 6 so that evaporation of the thermal medium 6 is not prevented at the time of a normal operation. |
