Uranium is recovered from a soln. obtd. by reacting a uranium ore with sulphuric acid, by ppn. as the peroxide by addn. of H2O2. Specifically prior to the ppn., alkali is added to the soln. to bring it to a pH equal to or slightly above theat required for ppn. of the U peroxide. The alkaline additive is Ca(OH)2, CaCO3, their mixt. or a mixt. of NaOH with a soluble Ca salt. The alkali pptes. out the sulphates and impurities prior to the sepn. of the U, hence purer U peroxide is obtd. and less H2O2 is needed than in prior art.
|
