Sesquiterpene deriv. (I), useful for treatment of nephritis, was prepd. by aerobical culture of Stachytotrys genus micro-organism in the culture ground which was composed of N, C, inorganic salt, and mineral assimilation matter. Thus, Stachytotrys SP-T-789 was cultured in the culture ground at pH 7.5 and 32≦̸C and then purified to give 6, 7-dihydroxy-2, 5, 5, 8a-tetra methyl-1, 2, 3, 4, 4a, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8a-deca hydronaphthalene-1-spiro-2'-(6', 7'-diformyl-4'-hydroxy-2', 3'- dihydrobenzofuran).
