<p>The coupler has incoming and forwarding optical fibres and two coupling optical fibres, their planar end faces lying in a common plane and being axially offset, with the cross-section of the input coupling optical fibre being less than that of the others. The overall dia. of the incoming, forwarding and output coupling optical fibres of the coupler is equal to the core dia. of the system optical fibres used with the coupler. Pref. the outer mantle of the optical fibres of the coupler cooperating with the system optical fibres is the thinnest possible to allow thickness variations of up to 100 per cent in the outer mantle. The overall dia. of the incoming optical fibre is not greater than the axial offset. The coupler is used for an optical communications system.</p> |
