1,168,651. Magnetic recording. AMPEX CORP. 20 Sept., 1966 [11 Oct., 1965], No. 42016/66. Headings G4C and G5R. In a system of recording and verifying the recording of information, a magnetic member such as tape 12 is moved discontinuously past a recording and reading head 25, a recording item moving between recordings to produce a verifying signal. Due to fringing effects the width of an item, as first recorded, is greater than the magnetic gap width which, in turn is greater than the final data cell length. Data A, from source 27 is applied to the recording head as energization B, and to register 54 and also over circuits 47, 48, 45 to cause drive motor 16 to advance the tape by one cell. Recording takes place when the tape is stationary (or slowly moving) and during the acceleration, and moving to the next recording position, a signal is induced in the reading a playback circuits by the trailing boundary of the recorded item and fed over circuits 50, 51, 53 to comparator 56 to produce an error signal if the inputs from registers 53, 54 are not in agreement. The end of a data cell is determined by light 37 and associated cell 40. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,099,568. |
