PURPOSE:To manufacture a vertical magnetic recording medium having excellent surface smoothing property and high orientation rate, by treating a nonmagnetic tape (substrate) on which a magnetic coating film has been provided, by use of intrasurface orientation magnetic field and a vertical orientation magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic paint 9 containing magnetic particles <=0.2mum particle diameter is applied by a coater head 8 on a nonmagnetic tape 2 which has been rewound from a reel 1 and after that, it is made to pass through a magnetic field of a magnetic field orientation device 12 constituted of intrasurface orientation magnet 13 and a vertical orientation magnet 14, and subsequently, the magnetic paint 9 is dried and solidified by a dryer 15, by which a vertical magnetic recording medium is formed. |
