The invention relates to a process for the preparation of an olefin copolymer rubber by random copolymerisation or any desired copolymerisation of at least two olefins using a catalyst obtained by mixing A) a titanium tetrahalide, B) a vanadium compound which is soluble in an organic solvent, and C) an organoaluminium compound, which process is characterised in that the mixing of at least constituents A) and C) is carried out in the presence of an olefin monomer at a temperature of not more than 5 DEG C. <IMAGE>
