A device for cooling a switching element which produces heat when it operates. The cooling device has a cooling element which has a projecting part which is intended to dissipate heat from the switching element to be cooled. The cooling element contains a closed chamber which extends as far as the interior of the projecting part. The chamber is filled with a coolant which can condense.
