PURPOSE:To enhance air permeation and air diffusion developed in a depolarizing mixture layer, by using a depolarizing mixture consisting of an active carbon powder containing over a given proportion of an active carbon powder of a given grain size, and a deliquescent salt solution of a given concentration. CONSTITUTION:An air dry cell is constituted by using a mixture of an active carbon powder and a deliquescent salt. 70-100pts.wt. of an active carbon powder of over 80 mesh prepared by sieving is mixed within 30-0pts.wt. of an ordinary active carbon powder. Thus prepared active carbon powder is added with a zinc chloride or ammonium chloride solution of moisture-absorption equilibrium concentration, the amount of which is restricted so that the amount of water contained in this deliquescent salt solution is below 4.5 times the amount of the active carbon powder, and the mixture is kneaded. The kneaded mixture is molded into a given shape, which is used as a depolarizing mixture layer. Since the above coarse active carbon of above 80 mesh provides appropriate spaces within the depolarizing mixture, the air satisfactorily permeates the mixture and diffuses through the spaces in the mixture. Consequently, the discharge characteristic 22 of the battery can be improved. |
