Granulation of molten metallurgical slag - by water which contains surfactant to reduce the amt of sulphurous gases released into the environment

The molten slag is converted into a granulate by treatment with water. The water contains in soln. 0.2-1.5 wt.% of surfactants which create a foam and thus reduce the amt. of sulphurous gases released into the atmos. during the granulation process. Used esp. in mfg. a granulate used as an aggregate in the prodn. of cements. The aq. soln. of surfactants removes sulphurous gases from the steam created during the granulation process. The need for costly air purificn. plant is thus eliminated.
