The spool sleeve (1) includes a thread pick up slot positioned on at least one end of the sleeve at a small distance from the front surface. The thread pick up slot extends over the whole circumference of the spool sleeve and within the thread pick-up slot there are several run in areas (3) and several clamping areas (4) positioned one behind the other. The lead from a run-in area to a clamping area is formed in the same way as the lead between a clamping area to a run in area. The object of this system is to produce a spool sleeve permitting the successful pick up of thread at very high spool speeds.
