Expandable clamping sleeve holding ring during machining - has grooved external and possibly internal surface to improve grip

The clamping sleeve (4) is intended for retaining an annular work-piece (5), partic. an out-of-round piece, during a machining (e.g. cutting 8) operation. The sleeve is in a material which is expandable by mechanical means, e.g. cone (1) in internally conical bush (2) inside cylinder segments (3) or by hydraulic or pneumatic means. The work is arranged around the sleeve whose outer surface (7) has a ribbed or similar profile. The profile may consist of axial grooves which are pref. up to 1 mm deep. The inner surface of the sleeve may be similarly grooved.
