Flexible seal for air or gases is intended esp. for the flow regulator of an air outlet in an automobile and consists of a porous block or strip coated on at least one face with a thinner, dense layer. The basic material is open-pore polyurethane foam and the dense coating is a skin applied as a liquid, polyurethane-containing material. The seal is suitable for a very wide range of operating temperatures from -40 deg.C to +120 deg.C and has minimal shrinkage. In addition, the seal is extremely easy to make by simply spraying or coating the liquid polyurethane with a gun onto the surface of the open-pore material.
