<p>The invention relates to a process for the purification of benzaldehyde and, in particular, the purification of benzaldehyde prepared by oxidation of toluene with a gas containing molecular oxygen. According to the invention, pure benzaldehyde is prepared by treating impure benzaldehyde with an oxidizing agent and distilling it. Benzaldehyde purified according to the invention is particularly suitable for application in the synthesis of scents and flavours, because it can meet the demands of olfactory specifications.</p> |
