PURPOSE:To easily obtain the parallelism of two optical fibers by polishing the end faces of the optical fibers in manner as to incline by a predetermined angle from the optical axis thereof and parting the center of lenses from the optical fiber end faces by a distance equal to the focal length thereof. CONSTITUTION:It is assumed that the optical axis 3 of an optical fiber 2 is off- centered by a distance Y from the central axis of a plug 7, that is, the ideal optical axis 4 of the connector. The end face 21 of the optical fiber 2 is inclined on the side of a spherical lens 1 by the angle theta by the formula I with respect to the surface 22 orthogonal to the optical axis 4. On the other hand, the spherical lens 1 is disposed on the extension of the optical axis 3 by parting its center from the center of the end face 21 by a distance equal to the focal length f of the lens 1. This results in that the luminous flux emitted from the optical fiber 2 is emitted on the optical axis 4 after it has passed the lens 1. Since the other lens 1' and optical fiber 2' are constituted in a similar manner, the result is that the luminous flux enters the optical axis of the optical fiber 2'. Hence, with such constitution, the parallelism between the two optical fibers may be obtained easily. |
