1277921 Measuring throwing power of electrophoretic coating solution. NIPPON PAINT CO Ltd 18 July 1969 [20 July 1968(3)] 36330/69 Heading G1N [Also in Division C7] The throwing power Th of an electro-phoretic coating solution of conductivity # is measured by applying a D.C. voltage V between the electrodes of a cell containing the solution, measuring the current I passing through the anode (being coated) of surface area S, and calculating Th from the formula: (Th)<SP>2</SP> = K. #.V.S/I where K is a constant (for comparison of two solutions), which may be the ratio of the internal cross-sectional area to circumference (i.e. r/2 where r is the internal radius) for coating the inside surface of a steel pipe. The coating bath, e.g. a stainless steel beaker, may serve as the cathode. The operating conditions of a coating process (temperature, voltage, composition or concentration of coating solution, coating period, or arrangement or size of the anode) may be controlled in response to an input signal representative of Th. |
