Pipe couplings with conic seals backed by an annular spring - to compensate for elastic fatigue by thermal cycling

Pipe coupling involving interaction between one or more collars with a conic wall interacting with an annular clamp having a wedge-shaped cross-section is provided with an annular spring stepped parallel to the coupling axis to maintain the clamp in good contact with the collar. Opt. the spring acts on the radial faces of two clamps mounted back to back. Esp. useful for pipe or hose systems subjected to cyclic temp. variations, e.g. for space heating systems using cross- linked polyethylene pipes, to compensate for any loss of radial elasticity of the components forming the collar/clamp interface, by forcing the clamp towards the barrow end of the collar. Opt. the clamp is a split ring.
