PURPOSE:To shorten the starting period of an engine by shortening the heating period of an electric heater without decreasing electric power supply to a starter through the feeding of electric current into an electric heater provided in the vortex chamber of some one of cylinders during the starting period. CONSTITUTION:In an engine in which the explosion order is set up in such a way as the first cylinder 1a third cylinder 1c fourth cylinder 1d second cylinder 1b, electric heaters 11 are provided respectively in the vortex flow chambers 8 of the first cylinder 1a and fourth cylinder 1d. Through the driving control of a fuel injection pump 3, a starter 5 and an elect by means of a control unit 12, two sets of electric heater 11 are fed with electric current during the cold starting period of the engine E and fuel is injected into only the vortex chambers 8 of the first cylinder 1a and the fourth cylinder 1d. By this manner, as the heating velocity is enhanced through the allowance of large electric power consumption at each electric heater 11, the sufficient electric power to the starter 5 can be supplied by suppressing the total electric power consumption to a small level. Consequently, the time necessary for cold start of engine E can be shortened. |
