PURPOSE:To discontinue retry in case of back space over a fixed error, by storing the tape required for write by the magnetic tape unit and by checking whether back space is performed by this length value or not for retry. CONSTITUTION:In the magnetic tape storage unit which can retry the block where error is generated for write, an IBG counter is provided which can store the length of the block for write of this block, and this counter is counted down for back space based on the back space instruction from the tape control unit for retry, and it is checked that the counter is returned to 0 within check range C of the IBG counter. In case that the value of the IBG counter does not enter into check range C, the control unit cannot detect the block normally, and the processing is discontinued in this case. |
