Ultrasonic generator (1) is located on one end of a straight, rigid rod transducer (2), the other end of which consists of a lug (3) with a plane (P). The bottom end of the lug has a knurled or ribbed surface (4) placed against the workpieces (5,6) which light in a plane (R) at 90 deg. to plate (P). The axis (X) of rod (2) is inclined w.r.t. plane (R) by a small angle (alpha), which is pref. 3-20 deg., esp. 7 deg. Appts. is used esp. to weld corrugated Al sheet (5) onto Al tubes (6) with a rectangular cross-section, to make a heat exchanger.
