The barrier used to close off streets with limited vehicular access, stands upright or folds flat onto the carriageway, being atomically stayed in the former position. The stay comprises a pin jointed arm with an elbow joint or with its head is mounted on a cranked axle, this arrangement accommodating the change in effective arm length without recourse to sliding connections or fittings. A partic. barrier may use an inverted 'U' shaped panel of which square internal leg end returns are strapped rotatably to a base plate. An 'I' shaped prop or stay fits inside the collapsed panel, its top bar offset below the rail, and its bottom bar set at somewhat greater distance below the leg returns. The ends of bar are also strapped rotatably to the base, and double sleeve links connect the ends of bar to the rail. |
