The clamp is esp. for securing work to the table of a machine-tool having a ram fixed to the table and with a clamping arm movable towards the table under the action of a medium under pressure. The arm also slews under the action of a bar with a spiral guide portion working in a mating body. On the ram cylinder (2) there is mounted a guard sleeve (25) enclosing the extensible portion (4) of the ram (1) on three sides and leaving the clamping arm (20) free where it protrudes beyond the cylinder. The sleeve turns about the axis of the latter.
