Alkaloid-contg. oil seeds are deprived of their bitterness by (a) steam-treating the residues obtd. by standard deoiling with benzene hydrocarbons, (b) drying to 8-10% water content and (c) extn. with 85 vol.% alcohol, pref. with the addn. of acid, esp. dil. AcOH or HCl. The solid-liq. extn. takes place in a battery under pressure (is not >5 bar) at 70-80 degrees C, with alternate charging of extractant and miscella obtd. The extn. vapours are washed with aq. alcohol at 50 degrees C in a cyclone. The slurry obtd. is pumped, opt. after collection in an intermediate vessel, to the solvent conduits leading to the extractors. The prod. is used as protein-contg. food for human and animal nutrition. Protein losses are reduced. The alcohol vapours can be recovered and recycled. |
