3-N-phenylcarbamoyl-4-hydroxycoumarin derivatives are used for controlling insects. The derivatives used according to the invention have the formula I <IMAGE> in which (i) R1 denotes hydrogen and R2 denotes hydrogen, 3- or 4-chloro, 4-nitro or 3-trifluoromethyl or (ii) R1 denotes 3-chloro and R2 denotes 4-chloro.
