The cushion 1 may be of elastomer, and may be elastically or plastically deformable. A shoulder 13 on the housing ring 6 ensures that the base of the cushion is larger than its upper surface. The guide or centering ring 17 is made of carbon-filled PTFE. The gap 14 is sealed by a seal ring 11 embedded in the cushion 1. The foamed elastomer layer 18 is not required to withstand pressure. A bearing plate 3 carries a slide plate of austenitic steel which rests on the cover plate 10, which is made of PTFE and has grooves or recesses 5 for lubricant. Tilting loads are accommodated by rocking of the ring 6 on the base 2.
