<p>Process for the mfr. of pressings or mouldings from mixed, dry or moist dusts and sludges, consisting mainly of iron oxides, where at least one dust has, or acquires, thixotropic properties. The moisture content is adjusted to match the final moisture content required and the mixt. of dusts fed to a beater- or disintegrating-mill and the material leaving the mill is moulded. The dust with thixotropic properties pref. contains the lowest possible amt. of moisture when it is fed to the mill. The dust is pref. that arising from the oxygen refining of steel and the sludge arising from the cleaning of blast-furnace throat gas. Permits the easy conversion of the dust and sludge to pellets by eliminating the formation of glutinous pastes which formerly clogged the mixing plant.</p> |
