The diaphragm actuated valve has valve closure element between inlet and outlet. The valve diaphragm is held as a closure plate in a chamber in the main flow path. The diaphragm can assume a large number of positions and the valve operations can be readily modulated. The position of the valve stem in relation to its actuator (32) can be optionally varied. Hence the diaphragm (11) is modulated in controlled manner by the actuator (109) connected to valve stem. This controls optionally the operating position of the valve stem relative to the actuator (32). The actuating arrangement can be a thermal motor with a large number of actuating positions for valve stem.
