By converting the coordinates of characteristic reference points of a calibration image (EB), particularly the centroids of predetermined part-images (TB1 to TB4) within the calibration image in image data during an opto-electrical image conversion and by using these image data as parameters for at least one coordinate transformation, a rapid and reliable position and scale calibration can be achieved for correlating image data with object elements, particularly with the aid of a calibration image (EB) consisting of a number of part-images with straight-line gapped areas. By comparing, transforming and evaluating the characteristics of a known calibration image with the image data from an opto-electronic image converter, workpieces arriving unsorted on a conveyor belt can be easily processed further by an automatic manipulating machine. <IMAGE> |
