<p>1279127 Grease preparation BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 10 Oct 1969 [26 Oct 1968] 49885/69 Heading C5F Greases are prepared in a continuous manner by mixing a metal base, a saponifiable material and a heated lubricating oil in an agitated reaction zone and passing the mixture to an evaporation stage; substantially all of the heat required in the reaction zone being provided by the components. The lubricating oil may be mineral or synthetic, e.g. a polyester, a polyether, a fluorinated hydrocarbon or a silicone. The saponifiable material may be a fatty acid, e.g. stearic, palmitic, oleic, tallow and 12. hydroxystearic or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl ester thereof. The metal base may be an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or aluminium hydroxide or alkaline derivative of these metals. The oil may be preheated to 110-400‹ C. The grease may contain an antioxidant, e.g. phenyl-alphanaphthylamine.</p> |
