Top feed refuse incinerator - has duct ending above tilting grate, with partial top opening into secondary combustion chamber

The refuse incinerator has a vertical feed duct (3) with a charging valve (1) at the top, terminating above a hollow tilting/slewing grate (5) through which primary airflows before emerging from the underside. Below the grate is an ash collecting zone. A cylindrical casing encloses all three parts and forms a combustion chamber (13) surrounding the duct, with a secondary air supply (15). Openings (11) part way up the duct divide this into an upper, drying/degassing zone (3a) and a lower (3b) for gassification and partial combustion, and allow pyrolised gas to flow into the combustion chamber. Starting/pilot burners (7) fire into the pyrolysing zone.
