Phosphorylated cephalosporins (I; R = H, C2-C8 alkanoyloxy, aryloxy, R3 = O, when atomic valance of P is 5, R5 = H, org. acyl, R1,R2 = lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, etc., n = 0 or 1 ) useful for preparing semisynthetic cephalosporins, were prepd. by treating cephalosporanates (II) with phosphory lating agent to form III, reacting III with acid halides and then with alcohol to give iminoethers, hydrolyzing, acylating, and then hydrolyzing to give I.
