Temperature regulator for smoothing iron - has temperature sensitive element in direct contact with heater ensuring good ironing

Good temp. control and hence good ironing behaviour is achieved in a smoothing iron, by a technically-sound connection of the heat sensitive element to the heating element. The temp. regulator consists of the sole of the iron and an element with a low coefficient of expansion by heat, such as a strip of 'Invar' (TRM) extending across most of the sole and having a switch in the heating circuit of the iron. The element with low expansion when heated has its ends metallically in contact with, and the whole of its length in the immediate proximity of, the heating element.
