The external-rotor motor can be mounted onto a wall by its flange (10). Cooling air inlet channels (11) are arranged in the flange so that they taper in passing inwards radially and then curve to direct the air roughly axially. The air outlet channels (13) are sited radially at the end of the bell-shaped rotor casing (1). The advantage lies in providing effective cooling for such a motor when mounted onto a closed wall or surface.
