To generate a still television picture, formed by repeated reproduction of two partial pictures, with video information, which are staggered by lines, without disturbing flicker effects caused by movement in the scene being recorded, the video information, which is provided serially, is divided into different groups for recording on the recording medium. The groups correspond to two partial pictures, namely a first and a second. The video information of the first and second partial picture themselves, or of previous partial pictures, is combined in the groups after the video signals are delayed. The combined group information of the two partial pictures formed in this way is recorded. For this purpose, the following are present: . at least one delay circuit arrangement (33), with a delay time of at least approximately the duration of a partial picture . at least two superposition stages (28, 32, 35) . at least one changeover switch (30, 36), with a switching signal generator (31), to supply a switching signal to change the changeover switch over. The output of the changeover switch (36) is connected to the signal output terminal (24) of the arrangement, and the input terminal of the delay circuit arrangement (33) is connected to the signal input terminal (23). The superposition stages combine the signals at the terminals of the arrangement (23, 24), the delay circuit arrangement (33) and the changeover switch (30, 36). <IMAGE>
