PURPOSE:To prepare physostigmine useful as miotics, hyperperistaltic agent, etc., by culturing physostigmine-producing fungi belonging to Streptomyces genus. CONSTITUTION:Physostigmine-producing fungi belonging to Streptomyces genus, e.g. Streptomyces sp. C-8030 (FERM-P No.4084), is cultured in a medium, and physostigmine of the formula is separated from the medium. The culturing is usually carried out in an aerated deep-tank fermentor, pref. at 20-37 deg.C. |
