PURPOSE:To enhance thermal conductivity while maintaining the properties of a base material by coating the surfaces of heat-transmitting fins with a layer of a material higher in thermal conductivity than the base material of the fins. CONSTITUTION:A plate-fin type heat exchanger P comprises sealing bars 2, 2 and heat-transmitting fins 3, 3 both of which are disposed between a multiplic ity of plates 1, 1. The surfaces of the fins 3 or the surfaces of the fins 3, the plates 1 and the sealing bars 2 are coated with layers 4, 4 of a material higher in thermal conductivity than a base material of the fins 3. A material having excellent properties at high temperatures, e.g. stainless steel or a titanium alloy, is used as the base material of the fins, and the surfaces of the fins are coated with a material having a high thermal conductivity, e.g. silver, copper, nickel or an alloy thereof, whereby a heat exchanger is obtained which has excellent strength and other properties at high temperatures and excellent heat transfer performance. Thus, the fins can be enhanced in thermal conductivity without spoiling the properties thereof. |
