At least one riveting punch (104) is supported axially and guided laterally at its end, by its head (106), on a pressure plate (108) in engagement with a driving element and movable transversely to the riveting axis. The shank region of the riveting punch (104) is guided by a guide plate (122) movable parallel to the pressure plate (108). The guide plate (122) is connected in articulated fashion to guide pins (132) supported in a fixed manner at one end and on the pressure plate (108) at the other end. Such a riveting machine is suitable both as a single and as a multiple tool and its riveting punches can be driven in any desired ratio of rotary to radial movements, for the performance of looping rotary movements for example. <IMAGE>
