A ball and socket joint, which forms part of a rack and pinion steering system uses a tab washer (12) to lock the socket (1) to the rod (7). The end of the rod has a flat (9) which receives one of the tabs of the tab washer. This tab is retained in position by the stop (10) which fits over the end of the rod. A plain washer (11) fits over the tab washer and is clamped in position when the socket is screwed into the rod. The opposite tab of the tab washer is then bent over the edge (15) of the socket. |
