Coke oven chamber offtake pipe lining repair - with sealed insert lowered on chain as heat shield

Gass offtake pipe lining of a coke oven chamber is repaired with the help of a cylindrical insert which is lowered on a chain to below the joint of pipe and chamber ceiling. The peripheral gap is sealed by a packing and also by repair or sealing compound injected until the lining has been repaired. The insert is then pulled out again. It is not necessary to open a charging hole and let a cold air stream circulate until the offtake pipe is fit to be repaired, and the damage to linings is prevented. All surplus lining compound is now removed with the insert after a repair.
