Turbocharged engine intake pressure regulation system - has exhaust discharge valve opening at decreasing pressure with increasing speed

The system regulates the intake pressure of an IC engine with an exhaust-driven turbo-charger by means of a discharge valve in the engine exhaust upstream of the turbine. This valve is designed to open at a predetermined inlet pressure. The closing force of the discharge valve, opposing the inlet pressure, become less with the engine running under load as engine speed increases. The valve can be spring-loaded shut, the force of the spring being opposed by a vacuum derived from the fresh air current drawn in by the turbo-charger.
