A coil former (48) for electrical coils, whose clamping-in points are not rotationally symmetrical, can be clamped in between a winding overhang (26) and a winding mandrel (24) which is axially opposite the winding overhang. The mutually facing clamping-in points (28, 30) on the winding overhang (26) and on the winding mandrel (24) are matched to the shape of the clamping-in points of the coil former (48). The winding overhang (26), which can be driven in a rotating manner, can be pulled back axially for insertion and removal of the coil former and is held in a predetermined rotational position by means of a locking device in the form of a pin (60), which is connected to the winding spindle (22), and a rotationally fixed groove (62). The winding mandrel (24) is likewise locked by means of a further locking device (36, 38) in the form of a screwdriver. This ensures that the winding overhang (26) and the winding mandrel (24) are respectively located in the same rotational position, matched to one another, during insertion of a new coil former (48). <IMAGE>
