<p>An apparatus for producing steel by melting down scrap, sponge iron, pellets, or the like and finishing the melted-down material, particularly in a melt-down vessel in which the column of burden material is melted from below, and a tiltable vessel for finishing the steel, the said tiltable vessel having an inlet and a charging aperture for additives, and means for heating the molten liquid in the said vessel, characterized in that the steelfinishing vessel is adapted to tilt about an axis of rotation in the vicinity of the outlet from the melt-down vessel, the said steel-finishing vessel being equipped with tapping holes for steel and slag, and the inlet being arranged on a level with the said axis of rotation and being of a size, in the direction of tilt, such that the material to be finished enters through the said inlet even when the said vessel is tilted for tapping.</p> |
