DIGITAL MULTIPLEXING

There is disclosed an integrated multiplexer and code translator and an integrated demultiplexer and code translator for two binary data streams. The integrated multiplexer and code translator first multiplexes the two binary data streams. The multiplexed data stream is divided into groups each containing four binary bits which in turn are translated into groups each containing three ternary bits. The three ternary bit groups are transmitted to the integrated demultiplexer and code translator where the three ternary bit groups are translated back to the four binary bit groups. Then the resultant multiplexed binary bit stream are demultiplexed to provide the original two binary data streams.
